Like many of you, we at UCF reacted with shock and horror over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week. As prospects for a peaceful resolution continue to look bleak, we pray for affected peoples, especially refugees fleeing their homeland, as well as those civilians unable to leave their homes who remain vulnerable to attack.
Many nations and corporations have responded to the invasion by imposing economic sanctions against Russia. As a fiduciary stewarding the assets of responsible investors, we want to assure you that UCF has very little exposure to Russian stocks and bonds. In fact, as of February 28, 2022, Russian securities make up less than 0.08% of UCF’s total assets.
We also want to remind you that UCF screens out companies that manufacture conventional and nuclear weapons. This investment restriction is in keeping with the United Church of Christ’s commitment as a Just Peace Church and the intention to avoid investments in entities that profit from war.
UCF’s Investments Team is monitoring global markets and speaking regularly with investment managers to ensure that we act in the best interests of our long-term and responsible-minded investors. Let us know if you have any questions. And we join you and millions around the world in lifting up prayers for peace.
