THE REV. DR. JAMES SHERBLOMThe Rev. Dr. James Sherblom

Prior to his ordination 11 years ago, Rev. Dr. James Sherblom enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a biotechnology executive as Senior Vice President and CFO at Genzyme Corporation, Chairman and CEO at Transgenic Sciences Inc., and as Managing Partner at the venture capital firm Seaflower Ventures. Jim earned a BA in history from Yale University, an MBA from Harvard University, and MDIV and DMIN degrees from Andover Newton Theological School (ANTS). Jim has served as Chair of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s (UUA) Common Endowment Fund, as a member of the UUA’s Socially Responsible Investing Committee, and as Chair of the Investment Committee at ANTS. He currently serves on the UUA President’s Council and as Chair of the Board of Trustees at ANTS. Jim lives with his wife Loretta Ho Sherblom in Concord, MA.


SYLVIA FERRELL-JONESSylvia Ferrell-Jones

YWCA Boston

Since 2007, Ms. Sylvia Ferrell-Jones has served as President & CEO of the YWCA Boston, following 25 years in real estate investment management, not-for-profit governance and executive leadership. Serving as a director at Boston-based AEW Capital Management and as a principal investment officer for the State of Connecticut Trust Funds, Ms. Ferrell-Jones managed equity and debt portfolios of up to $2 billion. She also served as Regional Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, providing governance, management and fundraising consultations to a portfolio of not-for-profit affiliates. Holding a BA from Cornell University and a JD from Yale Law School, Ms. Ferrell-Jones serves as a Trustee of Andover Newton Theological School. In addition to having served as Moderator and member of several committees, Ms. Ferrell-Jones sings in the choir and serves on the Pastoral Relations Committee at Pilgrim Congregational, UCC.


DONALDSON HILLDon Hill

Donaldson Hill is an independent fundraising and planned giving consultant for faith communities and other non-profits. For thirteen years, he served as chief development officer for the national and global ministries of the United Church of Christ where he oversaw the Church’s national planned giving and major gifts programs, and worked with staff in all settings of the church to build fundraising capacity. His past work has also included leadership positions with Andover Newton Theological School, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and Outward Bound. Don teaches fundraising and planned giving at New York University and is a member of the Board of Directors of Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California.


KATHRYN McCLOSKEYKatie McCloskey
Director, Social Responsibility
United Church Funds

Katie joined United Church Funds in 2007 and oversees UCF’s social responsibility activities — from proxy voting to corporate engagements. With extensive experience in the not-for-profit and humanitarian fields, she holds a BA in Women’s Studies and Literature from the University of Virginia, and serves on the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) Board of Directors as Secretary and Vice Chair. Katie lives in Long Island and with her husband and two children, and enjoys knitting and scuba diving.

 


 

DAVID KLASSENDavid Klassen

A 30-year veteran of the investment and finance industry, Dave served on United Church Funds’ Investment Committee before accepting his current position. Over the years, he has served in portfolio management positions at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and JP Morgan Chase. Dave earned a BA in Accounting from Franklin & Marshall College and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he serves on the Investment Committee of Union Theological Seminary and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Irvington, New York.

Mark Parthemer, AEP, is Managing Director and Senior Fiduciary Counsel for Bessemer Trust, a wealth management firm for high net-worth individuals. He is a well-known national speaker, frequently published author, and wealth planning magazine columnist. He chairs several fiduciary law committees of the American Bar Association and is ABA Liaison to, and Chair-Elect of, Synergy Summit. Mr. Parthemer serves on the Florida Bankers Association Trust Division Executive Council and chairs its Legislation Committee. A member of the Florida and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, he has garnered Lifetime Achievement honors for over 15 years as one of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Parthemer received his JD from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University, following BA and BS degrees from Franklin and Marshall College. He is an avid golfer, active in his church and serves on several national committees, including as Chair of UCC’s Wider Church Ministries Budget & Finance Committee.
