What is Beyond Fossil Fuels?
A website and social responsibility initiative dedicated to responding to the United Church of Christ’s General Synod resolution, Urging Divestment – and Other Strategies – from Fossil Fuel Companies. Beyond Fossil Fuels is hosted by United Church Funds.
Who is called to act with this resolution?
You! Your church! The whole UCC denomination! And the investing bodies of the United Church of Christ.
What is United Church Funds doing to respond?
Like many faith-based investors, United Church Funds considers dialogues with corporations and shareholder activism the bedrock practice of our socially responsible investing program. Our activism remains essential to exhorting fossil fuel companies to take positive and serious action toward reorienting their businesses toward renewable energy. Did the United Church of Christ divest of fossil fuel companies?
That is not the full story. The church has made a historic call for examining our use of fossil fuels and for our investment in companies that explore for and produce fossil fuels. The Beyond Fossil Fuels fund free of fossil fuel companies is open for new investments or transfers. Our traditional funds continue to have exposure to fossil fuel companies.
Can my church invest its money in a UCF fund that is free of fossil fuel companies?
Yes. The Beyond Fossil Fuels Fund is available for investors now.
Can I put my personal investments in a UCF fund?
No. UCF is an institutional investor of the United Church of Christ, we do not offer investment options for individuals.
How can I determine my church’s carbon footprint?
One way to get started is by using a carbon calculator! Interfaith Power and Light have a very effective one.
How can I advocate for legislative change?
Check out some ideas and resources from Mission 4/1 Earth.
I want to tell my story!
